Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine-based approach to treating a variety of conditions by triggering specific points on the skin with needles. It has been practiced in the West for over 30 years now.

Fine needles are inserted, by trained professionals, into specific points on the body to stimulate the flow of energy along meridian lines or energy pathways to clear blockages. The body’s immune system is stimulated. Blood Circulation and detoxification is promoted allowing wound healing and pain relief where required.

There are 12 principal meridians that carry the body’s energy, each corresponding to an organ or a function of the body and 2 main meridians.  The number of needles and placement depends on the ailment being treated and generally left in place for up to 45 mins.  During the treatment the patient should lie still and allow the needles to do their work. The process of inserting and removing them is painless, and you should not experience any discomfort throughout the treatment.

What’s the philosophy behind acupuncture?

The Chinese philosophy behind acupuncture is based on the belief that the human body is filled with an invisible life-giving force called ‘qi’ (pronounced ‘chee’) and when the qi was flowing well and going to all the right places, then a person would experience good mental and physical health. When the qi was flowing incorrectly (blocked or deficient) that would result in illness.  Acupuncture is thus designed to direct this qi in the right way in the body for reversing health issues by creating balance in the body.
